Web designers of a different kind

We’re not in this to get rich, and we’re not willing to die trying (sorry 50 cent). We started Escape Creative to help people spread valuable ideas online. And, in our opinion, the competition was not doing a great job. We observed poor design, confusing navigation, very little cross-browser compatibility, lazy code, spelling errors — you get the idea. Enough was enough.

We enjoy our work. We have fun. We laugh. We watch Hoops & YoYo’s rendition of Sarcastic Wednesday — every Wednesday. We might discuss SEO strategy at intramural dodgeball. Other times, we leave that stuff in the office. It’s less about rules, and more about respect. Our respect for our partners, and for one another, allows us to produce exceptional work, and have fun along the way.

Dave Warfel

Owner / Ultrarunner

Dave Warfel standing up with arms foldedI’m an athlete-adventurer who loves stories about folks who overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Growing up in Mt. Laurel, NJ, I experimented with every sport I could get my hands on. My love for baseball directed me to Elon University in North Carolina where I received the best all-around 4-year experience money can buy. Moving to Richmond the day after graduation, a new passion quickly surfaced: running. Running quickly progressed into the sport of triathlon, and now I’m hooked on all endurance events.

I’m currently training for a 100-mile footrace. Shortly after crossing the finish line, I’d like to complete an Ironman Triathlon. One day I’ll complete the Badwater Ultramarathon in Death Valley, CA.

Joanna Vitug

Executive Creative Director / Dodgeball Diva

Born and raised in Va. Beach, VA, I believe that sometimes there is nothing better than parking yourself on a beach towel in the sand, under the hot sun with your shades on, and people watching. I have a couple of loves: my family, friends, and my passion for all things creatively designed. This same passion ultimately led me to Richmond, VA where I attended and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Fashion Design. After a short stint in NY, I found out that NY’s bright city lights and fashion trends weren’t enough to keep me and that my heart was still in Richmond. What’s a girl to do, but find a new creative outlet... Web design & code has been my love ever since.

When I’m not nose deep into a keyboard, coding geekily, I’m outside either snowboarding, wakeboarding (trying to at least), playing dodgeball at SCOR, or at home trying to figure out my DVR.

Right now I’m probably playing with my 2 dogs, Ninja and Xena
Favorite yoga pose: Crow Pose a.k.a. Bakasana
You can usually find me working on my fitness at Gold’s, BlackFinn winding down the week, or hanging with friends at “Game Night”... Catch Phrase anyone?
Favorite quote: “The next best thing to being wise oneself is to live in a circle of those who are.”

If it were all up to me, everything would have a deadline. Dave knows how much I love deadlines. I feel like I accomplish more of my goals this way, then I get to cross them off my checklist. Checklists are a whole other story...
